Rain Lamp

This rain lamp hangs in our formal living room and was a topic of discussion last week in Mexico. It came from Jill's Grandma & Grandpa Denton. Here is some historical background information regarding rain lamps.

I've seen these before but never knew they were called rain lamps. Was this a gift from the grandparents or an inheritance? Is it vintage or new? Very cool and a great conversation piece.

I guess kind of an inheritance gift. This was given to her by her Grandfather when her Grandmother passed. He still enjoys seeing it every time he visits. Next time we talk to him I will have to get the details of when they acquired it. I do know that it is not new.

Thanks for posting the picture - I've never seen one before. I'll pass this along to Doug to see.

Your "history" of the Rain Lamp is patently false. My father, Doyle Bryant, invented the Rain Lamp and hand made them and distributed them through his company, the Beautifall Rainlamp Co. in Harbor City, CA, in the late 60s. Johnson Industries stole the design and began having them made overseas as cheap knock-offs. If you want to know more, email me at eternal_satyr@yahoo.com.

I just discovered this blog. I hope it is still being followed. When I was about 15 in the 60's I started helping Doyle Bryant (Mr. Bryant to me) working on his lamps. At first cleaning the spun metal domes and worked my way up. He started in his garage across the apartment from my parents and eventually had a warehouse to build the lamps with more people helping him. I knew he invented the lamps then. I always enjoyed my times with him. I eventually got another job while in college.
